Fergal Donlon of Carrick Town FC (center) presents Clement Gaffney and Brendan Lowe of The SRC with a donation of €10,000 on behalf of the soccer club’s members to kickstart the SRC’s fundraising campaign.
Phase 1 of the development of the campus is planned to include a fully fenced and floodlit 3G pitch at a site on the Castlecara Road in Carrick-on-Shannon. This all weather pitch will accommodate soccer, Gaelic games and rugby and is hoped to be completed by the end of 2024.
Future phases will include the addition of a 400m 8 lane tartan track and grass pitch, a sports pavilion including basketball courts, dressing rooms and finally car parks and spectator facilities. Further details can be found on the SRC website at www.thesrc.ie
As Brendan outlined at the project’s launch night in June, a founding principle is that the campus will be open to all sports, clubs and groups and aims to serve the sporting needs of the upper Shannon Region.
The SRC has been supported by The Community Recognition Fund 2023; supporting the development of community infrastructure and facilities that will be used in the future by all members of the community.
